Motivation wasn’t really a problem for our athletes during Fight Gone Bad on Sunday. I know for a fact that a few of you thought you might throw up from nerves and excitement as you looked out at the spectators before the workout. Despite the nerves, you went for it, gave it everything you had, and posted some great scores. Here’s a video on risk and motivation on Coach Melisa’s blog.

My CrossFit experience was so awesome!! I don't think I've ever been around that much genuinely positive energy in my life! Everyone was so gracious and helpful, and at the end of On-Ramp I really felt I could do anything!! Your entire team, male and female, have such enviable physiques and I know I can get there, too, so thank you for what you guys do and for what you"

Great video!
…so The Fear of Failure Motivates…
I would tie Motivation to Temptation in the sense that fear motivates us and that fear is present when temptation is present AND that when we resist temptation, we grow stronger from it just as we do when we turn our failures into successes…makes sense?
Found this online:
“How can failure work for us? It is simple, for every failure we experience we learn what does not work or a behavior we should not repeat. Let’s not be afraid of failure. The misperception is that failure is somehow bad for us. Failure is just the opposite and here are eight reasons why failure is a launching pad for success:”
1. Failure manifests determination.
2. Failure stimulates creativity.
3. Failure fully engages your brain.
4. Failure brings change.
5. Failure shows the strong from the weak.
6. Failure motivates you to try again.
7. Failure is an opportunity to learn.
8. Without failure you become complacent.
“The idea is basic. Failure is the change agent to becoming successful; we should not let the negative perception surrounding it bring us down. We are in charge of our lives and turning any failure into a positive experience.”
I really like that.
I also found this, which I liked (it is derived from a religious context but the message is clear…plus they discuss lifting weights which very much applies to Crossfit! haha)
“…in resisting temptation we derive a ‘blessing’ (termed one’s hope or approval in this context) in the process. What blessing?
The blessing of being better able to resist it the next time we are tempted. That’s right, resisting temptation itself makes us stronger just as resisting gravity in the lifting of weights makes our biceps and our triceps stronger.”

Looks like a good one. Anything with running is fine by me. I won’t be able to be there so I’ll try to do it on my own. I won’t be in much of the week do to a heavy work schedule.

11.53 on 20″ box, hands to ground on GHD
I have to say I really did not give this my all and so I feel I snitted. Just bagged this morning, cannot believe how much FGB took out of me. Rest day is in order.

(…from Quebec City…) aw man, I really want to do this one!!! looks challenging and fun! no CrossFit here that I can find, will have to wait til Thurs afternoon for WODs. Gonna take it down a notch a walk everywhere here instead of WODing, not much to work with here, and need all mental-physical stamina I have got! Could I do this WOD when I return by Saturday–

I think FGB really inspired me to push harder, I tapped into energy I didn’t know I had bc of the coaching and the audience. I’m going to try and hang onto that feeling and push harder in the routine WODs too! Did today in 12:33 with the 16″ box and row instead of run (and for the first time I think that was an advantage).

This was a tough one – finished in 14:?? I think. Wasn’t very happy with my performance, felt like I needed to go harder but just didn’t have it today. Apparently i need to work on those burpee box jumps, right B?!!
@Kimberly
Congrats on “beating” me!

Awesome video. I love what you wrote Jo, I would also add that especially at crossfit, failure gives us a new starting point. Once we reach our limit in what we can achieve at present, we start to work on what we have failed at so far, be it a new skill or a heavier weight. A great coach once told me that there are two kinds of athletes, those that are motivated to achieve success and those that are motivated to avoid failure. Achieving success means failing once in a while.

Big Congrats to Myles today for getting his first, then second Muscle-Up!! It was totally inspiring.
As for me, well, I have part of my name on the board! Today I got up through the rings and into the dip, pushed up, and just couldn’t lock it out. But I consider it a huge milestone, and tomorrow hopefully I can have the rest of my name on the board, ha! Thanks for that incentive Turbo!!

Had kind of a stinky day..first frost didn’t sit well with me. I am not from here so I am still trying to get used to the winter. I feel like I left some on the table…better next time
Awesome job Krystal! You are inspiring to say the least..watching you get 95% of a muscle up was amazing.

Hey Crystal and Myles that is awesome…..I went home and started working on the M.U. I am a ways away but your efforts and tips in the gym inspired me….
I was really upset I had over time today as I would have liked to have been there with others instead of at my work gym where I was getting the sideways glances again….
I did it in 10:22 at work but it kind of got screwed up as I had to “make” a GHD and had never done one GHD before. So I can’t count it as Rx’d.
I don’t know what is wrong with me. Every time I think, “how bad can it be” I pay for it dearly. Some how my lower belly (I don’t have “abdominals” yet) feels like I would imagine it might after hanging from the pipes for a round of K2E instead taking 100 gut shots from the “Iceman”.
I started going back to the ground and all the way up then ended up going parallel, mostly because my abdominal muscles started ripping through my skin…I am pretty sure they are not supposed to….
I then did 3×3 front squat
225 x 3, 245 x 3, 255 x 3
I am kind of looking forward to tomorrow…..I have a hundred excuses already lined up but I saw the video and it made me laugh
Not a verbatim comment from Glassman but “Suck it up sissy ….3-2-1 go…
”
Kind Regards,
E.
Please excuse the odd diatribe I write but it acts as somewhat of a release….

@Erika
Well thanks for waiting for me to start the WOD! I’ve been “chasing” you since I started CF
September 29, 2009 at 9:51 pm
@Eric
Hey Eric, on the GHD machine you can extend your quads aggressively and the effect is that during the workout you feel like you’re getting a quad workout rather than an abs thing. Reason is, at that degree of hip extension its otherwise your poor little illiopsoas that have to do all the work and they won’t be happy about it. There’s a great vid on the CrossFit exercises page…
