Still warming up...

Workout of the Day

Press 1-1-1-1-1

Then, 5 Rounds of:
Max Double Unders, 1 Minute
Body Weight Dead Hang, 1 Minute

Athletes will have :15 seconds to transition between movements.  Coming off the bar constitutes a “foul” and 10 burpee penalty. Every :10 off the bar after coming down is an additional foul.

Mobility Monday

Remember the last time you had a massage?  How did it feel when the therapist worked your calves?  Were you in tears?   We do a lot of jumping and I often find myself with tight calves.  This in itself isn’t so bad, but consider the big picture.  When we experience pain in a specific joint, it’s usually a good idea to check out what’s going on with the muscles up and down stream from that joint.  In other words if your knees hurt, have a closer look at your calves, hamstrings and quads.  There are several dynamic and static stretches you can do for your calf muscles (gastrocnemius and soleus).   Ask your coach to help you with these.  You can also use the foam roller for self myofascial release, as shown in this video.

    wod – 139 du’s – no burpees!

    I’d like to take a moment and just revel in the fact that my score was higher than SK’s! Probably the only time I will ever see that so I am going to enjoy that for a moment!

    Good job on the DUs!! @Erika

    I was happy with my DU performance (10 in a row!), but just couldn’t keep hanging there, I ended with 117 DU – 70 penalties, not cool! My grip needs work, apparently that means more deadlifts…I can do that :)

    Hit a new 85# PR on the press!

    My work is suffering today though, my forearms are still deflating and it’s affecting my writing while grading, it’s actually kind of amusing, makes a job I hate more interesting…

    Does anybody know if I can have cane sugar on Paleo?

    @maxine
    Max, “cane sugar” is sugar, so you generally want to stay away from it…

    I hear we have a few members starting a “Paleo Challenge” today. I hesitate to use the word “challenge” because we should try to see it as a new way to eat clean, manage energy levels and feel better. Anyone else on board?

    High Five Erika…good job! Maybe you can give me a few pointers on those DU’s? They’re still my nemesis! @Erika

    @maxine
    Cane sugar has a high GI (compared to honey or agave nectar) so I would treat it like refined white sugar. I tend to only use honey or maple syrup bc they’re natural (debatable whether a caveman would have sucked the sap out of a tree though). Honey tastes sweet and it also has other good things going for it. Try to stay away from any/most sugar for the first bit of going paleo so your body can adjust. I found it hard to get over the sugar cravings while eating sugar (I think I still struggle with that) and you’ll give your tastebuds a chance to recover.

    Fun workout today.
    Dropped from the bar 4 times! – Every work out humbles me in one way or another.
    235 DU’s (i think thats what i got) i cannot remember much right now as it is taking me everything to type this out – forearms trashed.
    Good work Erika! Always nice to see those type of posts on here.

    Got to a PR on the press at 185#
    The workout was tough. Gripping the high fat bar killed me.
    Dropped the grip 5 times and managed 116 DU’s before losing
    50 for the drops. Took my 50 burpees medicine at the end.

    I’m on day 3 for Paleo eating… if I’m challenging anyone, it’s myself. It’s a whole new way of thinking what you are putting in your mouth. I walked by a sucker today and said ‘Oooo a sucker’.. then realized I can’t eat those anymore. Makes me think of what random stuff I used to put in my body without even thinking about it. I was in the kitchen for 2 hours last night baking/cooking etc… and was actually enjoying myself. I used to think cooking was a chore, I seem to enjoy the challenge of recipes now. And my boyfriend is right beside me, so it’s quality time we never had before. No cravings so far… but it’s pizza day tomorrow… oh the will power. Can I atleast pick off the pepperoni? :)
    If there is a Paleo Challenge… I am in.
