Pounds or kilos?

Pounds or kilos?

The Agatsu Barbell certification over the weekend went very well.  The coaches and some of our members got to spend the weekend learning how to move weight.  Thanks to Willie and Pierre who did a great job instructing the course.

We’ve also had a lot of fun weightlifting with Rosie on Sunday afternoons over the past six weeks.  Of course, I would love to ask Rosie to come in and instruct more classes and I hope she is willing to do this again.  As we organized these classes and Coach Derek got ready for the Manitoba Open, the thought occurred to me that perhaps we should have our own weightlifting club, right here at CrossFit Winnipeg.  Busy with all the other tasks associated with running the gym, I put the idea on the back burner for a while, but this weekend at our barbell certification Pierre Auge from CrossFit Ottawa and the Capital Weightlifting Club started the wheels turning again as we discussed how he has been able to do this at his gym.

So I’m throwing the idea out there: What do you think? If we had our very own weightlifting club as part of the Manitoba Weightlifting Association at CrossFit Winnipeg, would you join?  How often would you come to the gym to work on your lifts if we offered regular class?  Would you ever compete in a weightlifting meet? Do you think it would help your CrossFit?  Should I order kilogram bumper plates?

Post thoughts to comments.

  • Depending on cost…I would totally love to further my ability and learn more in this area…so YES YES YES and YES….

  • I would be very interested in it. I have been considering crossfit as “my sport” lately and would love to revisit my competitive nature once again as i have not really done that in quite a few years. I would totally compete in a weightlifing meet. It would help my crossfit among other factors in my life.
And we can do shirts! ha.

  • oh right…thanks for reminding me nic…depending on costs (sigh).

  • Same boat as Nic and Chris! Keep us posted :-)

  • I’d be in as well… same goes for cost factor as above…
I would consider the meets… as stepping on that podium (or in our case in the box) made the adrenalin pump!
It has helped my CF…. and I calculate better in pounds. :)

  • I’d be in for sure. Sounds awesome.

  • I was checking out the MB oly and power lifting websites yesterday trying to figure out how I could do CF and pursue some weight training, so I am most definetely in and would love to try competeting.

  • ….i’d give ‘er a go!

  • This is a great idea! I would probably come in once or twice a week if was offered. I would compete too.
Its sad that there aren’t many weightlifting clubs in Winnipeg. And that the MB Open got cancelled due to lack of interest.
After the classes with Rosie, I’ve been craving to do more oly lifts. I think a body weight snatch is close for me!

  • How hot would it be for me to be strutting around in a weightlifting singlet more often?

  • I don’t know Stephen… pretty hot I guess. Kind of a random comment….

I’d be so in to having or hosting a weightlifting club and I’d step up on the platform… in a singlet I guess…

  • I believe we should make it mandatory for all the boys to wear singlets. Good times!

  • I sell singlets.

  • Chris, what don’t you sell? :)

  • Funny, I don’t remember posting a comment about wearing a singlet. Very funny stuff. Could be a tad dangerous getting into the habit of posting as someone else. Wouldn’t want to open up that can of worms. But I do agree, I’d love to strut around in a singlet.

  • I will have singlet fittings today at 3:30pm.

  • I would be interested, time would be a factor for me and the cost. I am NOT wearing a singlet!

  • @Stephen
Crazy. The things people will do. But, I agree, so I’ve added a little thing that shows up below the comment form. It should say something like, “Not stephen? Click here to clear this info.” That might address the issue…..

  • @b
as would a swift kick to the junk

  • @Stephen
    duly noted

  • Sometimes when I’m alone at CFW, I do naked windmills while listening to Barbara Streisand.

  • Wow…Brendan, that’s totally disturbing, but it took ALOT of courage to admit that…

  • @Brendan
You can now at least put on that singlet that i left there.

  • @Stephen
    lol… okay… truce?

    @Chris
naked windmills are naked windmills. That’s all there is to it. Thanks for the offer though.

  • @B
Truce? what are you talking about?

    Just Kidding, bro…truce…for now

  • You guys are too funny! I might have to come just to check out the guys in the singlets!

  • @ Brendan & Stephen
That is way too much information!!
