ewwwwwww
Not happy with my wod today. Really struggled on the rope climbs, failed to get all the way up on the last one. Felt like I was losing my grip and was afraid of falling. Did modified wod of 3 rounds, 2 rope climbs, 12 mod. ring dips, 50 squats. Finished 17:?? Need to work on my goal of conquering the fear.

Thanks B, I do know that – helps to be reminded though. This was the first time attempting rope climbs since August. On that last one I lost my footing and started to slide, then I just lost my nerve altogether. I will conquer that!
@Erika
Myabe rope climbs are like box jumps, if you make an attempt that puts the fear into you, maybe you just take a couple of breaths and try again. I don’t know, perhaps you’re more likely to get hurt 15ft in the air than 15 inches off the ground:-)

19:45 Rx’d, now that I think of it I wasn’t doing a very good job of doing the rope climbs from seated. I would pull myself up to standing, take a break and then climb the rope, but I guess that’s not too bad if there’s no jumping. In any case, I have to be happy with 63 ring dips in a wod!
@tania
Yeah, there’s a bit of a difference!! My #1 goal is to conquer those things that scare me. I will not let fear get the better of me.
Nice work on the wod!
@Erika
Erika…i have been “there” often. But as long as you leave KNOWING you did everything you could with what you had that day it is all worth it and you should not feel bad about that. Even if the time, weight, etc was not there. Considering what kind of “workout” you could get from a reg gym.
Keep up the great work.
@chris
Thanks Chris. I know I still got a great workout and I gave all I had I was just disappointed with myself that I bailed on the last rope climb. I was about a foot from the top when I started to slip and I got scared and bailed. There’s always that “maybe I could have….” but for sure next time!
Rope climb scares the shit out of me. There i said it…its out there.
Maybe we can hold hands doing it next time.
27:24 rx.
wow this one looked easier than it felt! I guess I should know by now they are all like that.
@Erika
During the last 2 rounds of the rope climb, I was having a hard time pulling myself up too. I was using the method of wrapping my foot around the rope as a platform for my other foot to step on. My arms were giving out so i had to use a lot of leg strength to pull me up. I found that helped. At one point, I thought to myself that I won’t let myself fall and dug in tighter with my legs. I did get rope burn above my ankles though!
…14:52, Rx’d. legs are nice and cut up.
I got some serious rope burn on my shins as well. I felt that if I also put the rope between my knees I got a lot more support from my legs.
never mind rope burns, I actually have a big bruise on my shin!
@Brad G
Hey Brad at the meeting you were saying that you use the track at the U of M…Im interested in running there if possible and was wondering when you go…maybe if anyone else wanted to we could all set up a time??
@Chris
Thanks, I am glad I am not the only one afraid of rope climbs. Next time – it’s a date, we’ll hold hands through it!
Thanks for the comments everyone. This community is awesome. @Harvey, next time I will dig in deeper with my legs too.
@tania
Next time I see you we can compare bruises – I have a nice one too!
