Also……Does Gum coubnt as sugar…..does chewing gum affect insulin???

@Eric
Just as a side note Eric–it can, as much as it’s sugar free or not, you’re still tricking the body to think it’s getting some kind of sugar, but to feel more sound about an answer, I’ll let the experts tell you on Thurs! (ps- I know of gum that has no flavour but spearmint that does exist but not sure where you can get it here yet…)

That is what I was thinking, much the same as Splenda and other subs….(Before this challenge I was going to O.D. on low cal sugar subs)
Thanks very much…

@E
I’ve heard and read the same thing as superbean, that in some people, not necessarily everyone, just the taste or even suggestion of something sweet can spike their insulin…

@Turbo
It figures…..
Thanks,

Question:
Is it beneficial to have an insulin spike i.e fruit juice/dextrose along with Post workout meal (protein/carbs) after an intense workout?
Does it help with nutrient absorption?

It does help with glycogen replenishment, however, something like yams or sweet potatoes is preferable over fructose as it replenishes muscle glycogen vs. liver glycogen. However, for someone who is still trying to lean out, I would suggest that insulin control is a higher priority than glycogen replenishment. So, if any of you are not yet where you want be as far as body fat % is concerned stick with lots of protein and relatively low carb post workout.
