Another great resource…

Please post lunch to comments and keep the discussion going.  I love how yesterday’s post extended the average comment length to that of a short story…

Lunch today is leftovers from last night. Steak fajitas (no shell) with guacamole made by my wife.

This is about yesterday’s cheat day business. Here’s my thought, FWIW (free so you decide) I have been actively athletic throughout most of my life, and at one point was a fairly high level specialized athlete, and I abused my body for the most part with the crap I was putting in and lack of rest. I was young and dumb and oh do I wonder what I could have been with a little more GPP and proper rest and nutrition, but I digress. This past year and a half I have come back to fall in love with being fit and more importantly I have cleaned up my diet, become more srious about sleep and become a positive force in discussing it with whoever wants to listen. I think I almost have my wife convinced to grab a barbell and give paleo a shot. (ALMOST !) I don’t have “cheat” days either, I have a life and kids and responsibilities and families just like everyone else. I make the best decisions I can at the time and live with them. I am loving the fact that my affiliate (Crossfit Winnipeg) has let me participate in this challenge, as it was one of my training goals for 2010. The plan is to stay 80-100 % paleo for the remainder of the year with al least one 30 day strecth at 100%. I like it (paleo) and it works well for me. The idea of weighing and measuring (zoning) is something I could care less about now. I really don’t drink, as alocohol and I don’t get along. I guess I have the occasional meal or snack that I probably could have a made a better choice on, but have I ever improved the last 12 months and imagine I will again in the next twelve. And that is the point; most everyone has committed to making improvements and being actively involved in changing their own lilfe and becoming hyper0sensitive to their own health and fitness and improving it to the best of their abilities. I would like to say I will be better next montyh tha I was this month….and so it goes on.

Enough blabbering, ahve a great day and enjoy the meat !

Has anyone found that medication works super intensley when eating clean? I have found a bunch of red itchy spots in the last couple days and took a benedryl this am, it sure hit me hard, I could hardly keep my eyes open, “May cause drausiness” should read “Be prepared to hold your head up with your hands and pin you eyes open for 6-8 hours”. Bleh, I guess i should have left it alone.

A big spinach salad with onion/carrot/cucumber with boiled eggs and lemon pepper chicken as protein and EVOO/balsamic vinegar as dressing.

Ps. I am away at a hockey tourney this weekend and I found out that the hotel has a little fridge so I will be bringing 4-5 of my ready-to-go meals and hogging all the room in there…

I’m not much of a ‘protein bar’ person but I’ve never tried these Larabar bars ppl are talking about and I think bringing a couple as an easy-grab snack when I’m away from my mini-fridge would be good….Looked at Superstore and some health stores so far with no luck – WHERE ARE YOU BUYING THEM PEOPLE??? :-)

Tuna with mayo and 2 baby cukes, 1/2 yellow pepper, and 1 lettuce wrap with braised beet greens in garlic, cumin and coconut oil. YUM! best thing Turbo ever suggested for nutrition for me was to do greens in garlic, onion, oil and cumin or the like–really makes it easier to get your greens down!

@Smokey Jo I have found them at Vita Health for 2.99, Sunrise Health for 2.49 and MEC for 1.80. I have also seen them at the Superstore on Ellice, can’t remember how much. My fav flavors are cherry, gingersnap, coconut cream. The pecan pie and the chocolate one are both kind of flavourless, the lemon and key lime are ok. But it’s not a protein bar, they are made of dried fruit and nuts, mostly dates and almonds, so it’s a high calorie, carb plus fat. But it’s incredibly handy. I’ve been hoping to try my hand at homemaking one, maybe this weekend. Really the only ingredients are (coconut cream pie) Dates, unsweetened coconut, almonds, cashews (not paleo) and extra virgin coconut oil. I’ve found they are super awesome when paired with a bland peice of meat like cold turkey, super yummy!

i had sushi this afternoon for lunch. I think i made some bad choices where it really could have went not too badly. Waaay to many rolls. I felt inflamed for a good hour after and still feeling kind of raw. Lesson learned.

    @ Smokey Jo
I just tried my first Larabar this past week… found them at TJ Maxx of all places. It came in handy on the plane. Definitely wouldn’t eat them all the time, as Nat G says, they are just dates and nuts… but great in a pinch or if you are on the road. I’ve only tried the Cashew/Date one… it was good.

    @Motha
Thanks Mandy….yah I think they are too high carb/high fat for me to eat regularly…. plus that would just set off my sweet tooth so gotta stay away for the most part, but like you say, ‘great in a pinch’.

You can get a box of 12 at Costco for 16 dollars. I eat them way too often. They are too convenient, when I run out doubt I will buy, maybe make homemade protein bars instead.

Jodi and I were running around today getting last minute stuff for Barbados out of the way so we ate breakfats late and had lunch late. So lunch was kinda a combo of sausages, raisons and steaks eaten over many hours. Probably our last post for about a week on what we eat as head down into the warmth. I expect to eat allot of seafood but will probably be eating more carbs(in a non paleo way)to refuel the body inbetween rugby games. Not to mention the inevitable liquid carbs that are a must following every rugby game.

I was at a conference today and lunch consisted of salad and roast beef w/veggies…for the first time in my life, I left the fresh bread and mashed patatoes on my plate untouched and skipped the pecan pie drizzed with chocolat which was staring at me intensly for a full 30 minutes while I tried to concentrate on the guest speaker. I also skipped the cinamon buns and cake which was being offered at the 3pm break and opted for the carrots and celery sticks I had stached in my purse just in case…I’m finaly gaining some willpower! Felt great!

I enjoyed a wonderful lunch of pork sausage in a mixed green salad w/ crasins and chopped almonds, just before going to see tons of pacific whales jump out of the sea right in front of our eyes. Unbereeveable! Crazy but I’m looking forward to coming home and doing pull ups. I almost considered doing them off of a soccer net, but gauranteed the guys who were playing would think their was something wrong with me. :O) The 6-10 ft waves have been keeping me busing for the most part. Playing in them or avoiding them from breaking my neck…. can’t figure out which is more fun! See ya Wed. mornin’!

Have a great time in Barbados. Treat yourself to the seared tuna at Harlequins – on the St Lawrence Gap – my mouth is watering just typing that. And please have a Mount Gay for me!
