  • Eak! missed yesterday! So here it is:

    Breakie: “Cereal”
Lunch: Chicken Thigh from Safeway Roast chicken – still warm, yum! Some nuts and an orange.
Dinner: Mandy’s Shepherd’s pie – holy moly Mandy – this is tasty!!!

    Today:
    Breakie: “cereal”
    Lunch: Shepherd’s pie
Dinner: The plan is to have pickerel, but I am finding that I really don’t dig food after CF and the only thing I can con myself into is a smoothie. Maybe this will change as I get more in shape. Also, we don’t get home intil 8:00 ‘ish which I feel is too late to want to eat dinner. I am thinking about eating “dinner” at work instead at 4:00′ish. What do the rest of you do?

  • ‘Morning!

For dinner am going to attempt Sushi, sans rice, with smoked salmon. Should be a fun challenge.

@ Kelly – I have no problems eating after working out. A 4:00 pre-dinner does sound good though.. and if it works better for you, Great!

  • @Kelly P. I generally do both, I have first lunch around 11:30 then second lunch 3:30 or 4 and then dinner post wod usually 7:30 or so. With a smaller snack later in the evening, depending on the size of dinner.

@Motha Just the other day Brad asked if we could sub cauliflower for rice in sushi, seems worth a try!

We just came back from a weekend away, where we were the cooks for a group of 30, only we didn’t plan the menu so we made what we were told. It really put things in perspective how much easier it is to eat well when your house is set up for it. We were surrounded by bad carbs and sugar, seriously, I can’t believe how much sugar was available to the kids we were cooking for! Pancakes and whipcream for breakfast, bread and crackers with soup for lunch, brownies smeared in icing, then cinnamon buns, then hot chocolate then chocolate bars, then dinner with potatos, corn, gravy and finally cookies, apples and more cinnamon buns, seriously that was my Saturday. I managed to avoid most of it, but did partake in some oatmeal for Sunday breakfast, wow, it was shocking what that did my system, I thought it was a lesser evil but I paid for it for 12 hours after. It makes me wonder how much turmoil there must be on a regular basis in the average tummy! It’s interesting though, I do deal with guilt, yet I didn’t punish myself with excersize, I simply re committed myself to eating well and choosing good foods. And I went to bed early to help keep my mind clear!

Last night I tried a recipe from the posting yesterday, Pecan-glazed butternut squash pudding, it is very sweet, the honey should be cut in half at least, but I loved it! I’m looking forward to a hard workout today, bring it!

  • Confession time…
I went to the Olympics to see the world’s best athletes and treated my own body like crap, ah the irony. No WODs (but lots of walking, and they have hills there!) and I didn’t even try to make good food choices after day 1. Do I feel guilty? no. Do I feel awful today while my body goes through sugar withdrawl? absolutely. Will I get back on the wagon and eat real food again? of course.

I admire all of you who made real food choices while on holidays.

  • I had an interesting weekend. My son Jeff proposed to his girlfriend on Saturday so we had a party Saturday nite to celebrate. Paleo went out the window for the nite but I found I really couldn’t eat a lot of what was there. It just felt horrible in my stomach and I felt sick. Had a bite of cake – couldn’t even think of stomaching a whole piece. Way too sweet and rich. Did enjoy some champagne though! Sunday got back into eating right and felt way better!

On another note – when I started crossfit and therefor eating healthier I was a size 10 in pants – I went shopping on Friday and bought and fit into a size 4! I have never been a size 4 in my life!

    @Kimberly
I know you will “detox” and be back on track in no time! Glad you had a great time though.

Dinner tonight is a chicken/shrimp stir fry.

  • New Food Item of the Week: Butternut Squash

Recipe 1: Latkes paleo style (aka. Potato pancakes)
    4C of shredded BNS
    1 med yellow onion shredded
    3 whisked eggs

Mix these all together in a bowl. Heat Fry pan to low-med heat. I used solidified bacon fat as the cooking oil. Form patties and place in pan. I actually just grabbed a bunch and threw it in the pan and squished it down with my spatula. Fry until golden brown on both sides. They may not stay in patty form, but they still turn out good.
Recipe challenge: Easy. Recipe result: Delicious! Putting these into the rotation.

    Recipe 2: Fries
BNS cut into fry size pieces. (I have an attachment on my slicer that does fry size… slice however many you want)
Cover with EVOO and cinnamon and mix well. (I just eyeball the amounts; make sure every fry is covered with the mix)
Bake @ 350 for 20-25 mins on a baking sheet. Flip them at 10 mins.
Recipe challenge: Easy. Recipe result: Scrumptious! Also a rotation keeper.

These recipes have been tested by a ‘non’ squash eater, and he has converted. You’re welcome Kelly! Lol (It was her husband)

For you paleo’ins that don’t have a slicer (mandolin) yet, it is sooo worth the investment. We got ours at a home show a couple years ago for $50 and it has been well used ever since. (Keep it on the counter, or you’ll forget to use it) The amount of time you save on slicing and dicing veggies, squash etc… priceless.

  • @ motha – way to rub it in!!! Lol

I can attest that morgan loved it and I therefore picked up three while shopping yesterday – apparently they taste like cinnamon buns and I need to be “doing them up”

@ Kimberly – so jealous!! What did you see? I am sure the detox will be worth it.

what I love is the validation you get when you go cheat. Yeah it feels like hell, but it is solid proof that I am doing the right thing for my body in the face of other’s skepticism (or criticism). I have noticed soooo many changes since I have started this.

@ Erika – congratulations on both the engagement and the size 4 pants!! WOOT!

  • Chicken and a salad for supper

  • I second the Butternut squash. Costco usually has a big thing of it that we grab when there, plus we bought a few of them down and Barbados. I fry them first in oil, then season and bake.

Today was a good day getting fully back on the wagon of paleo. My liver thanks me while my brain cries for another Banks beer. Lots of meat and veggies during the day. Topped off with a big steak, cauliflower, brocoli and some celery.

  • leafy greens with avocado, strawberries, olive oil. Pan fried seasoned sole.
    great din.

  • both tonight andd last night was beef and vegeables. Made a couple of choices that could have been better but all in all I am pleased with my weekend away.

  • @ Mike P
Were you in Barbados? I remember that beer very well… a little too well. :)

  • pulled pork & asparagus

    @mikep
How was the Mount Gay. Do you know Scott Harland?

  • @Kelly P.
Hockey, hockey, and more hockey, and the men’s 500 m long track final. Very amazing!

I’m disappointed in my lack of self-control with the food but I’m not making excuses, I’ll just move on and deal with the hangover feeling. It definetely made me realize how good I feel when I am eating clean, wow. I need to remember that when I go on my next vacation.

@Erika Congrats! Will I see you tomorrow? The WOD looks terrifying for someone coming off a week in lazyland.

  • Dinner last night was homemade cream of mushroom soup with turkey and beef. I just purchased a Slap Chop and wanted to test it out. It doesn’t work quite as amazingly as the commercial suggests but it gets the job done in a fraction of time and is easily worth the $15 I spent, but I do agree with @Motha and should really invest in the mandolin. I know pampered chef sells a very overpriced one.

On another note, I treated myself to a deep tissue massage last night. Can’t quite describe in words the feelings I have, except that the pain is worse than most DOMS I’ve every experienced. I kind of like it though. I also signed up to do it again next week. If anyone wants to submit themselves to torture, I’ve got a great guy at a great place, I can give you his #!

  • Missed this day////

Had a big salad again….1 can of salmon, 3 hard boiled eggs, lettuce, chopped peppers…..ect…..

    Was very filling…..
