Real Food Challenge Day 53

March 11th, 2010

Here are some shopping strategies from My Paleo Kitchen.

Please start thinking about what you’ve accomplished over the past 8 weeks so that you can put it into words for your final photo/testimonial submission.

Post shopping strategies and snacks to comments.

It’s funny how I don’t venture into the aisles at the grocery store anymore… unless it’s to track down some canned tomatoes.
I try to make a list for the store before I go… and have a magnet pad on my fridge to write down things I run out of, so I remember to pick them up.
I try to either make a new recipe, or try a new veggie every week or 2.
The other day I was perusing through the frozen boxed goods just for fun, as I was waiting for a prescription… and came across Carmen Creek Bison Burgers. I checked the ingredients, and low and behold, nothing we can’t eat. Wow. Somthing in a box, that I can actually eat. Anywho, I bought them… and will be my quick go to meal if I need it. They aren’t that cheap… so won’t be having then often, but at least I know I have something quick if I need it. Sweet find. (I haven’t actually tasted them yet… fingers crossed!)

Good article about what we already know/believe, but sometimes it’s good to see the research that’s been done.

I agree with Motha. I rarely go down the isles anymore and when I do it is usually for tomato sauce or tea. I actually have to make a list for those things or I forget to buy them because I don’t go up and down the isles anymore. I shop every couple of days to have fresh veggies on hand.

My snacks so far today have been a handful of almonds. Tonight I will probably have leftover protein from supper and a piece of fruit.

today’s snacks…cause breaky was extreemly early…mid morning found me scrambling one egg, back bacon & spinach. yum yum…small pc pineapple on the side. afternoon snack…5 almonds & the cup of coffee that didn’t happen in the morning…just to get me thru the day cause it started faaaarrr too early!
good article on shopping…hadn’t actually given the topic much thought until I read the article. This is one of my most busiest seasons and so shopping has been the “just go take care of it” mode. I found that shopping more often….smaller trips….on way home worked o.k. I like having fresh fruits & veggies…and if I buy too much at a time…some go bad on me. It’s not perfect but currently works.

I find we shop 2-3 times a week just to keep up on veggies and fruit. However they are easy quick in and out trips, as we never need to really go down the aisles.

Snacks today was cucumbers, tomatoes, and some sausages.

snack today was a load of hard boiled eggs and beef jerky….I had 2 hard boiled eggs at three different times today…….I tend to snack on cut raw veggies as well………and nuts….I have to put them in little snack bags though or I will over indulge…..(like 2lbs in one sitting…then I get quite a met con by running back and forth to the can…:( ) (I know too much info….)

A veggie keeping tip… Tupperware supposedly makes an awesome product to keep your veggies fresh… we use Ziploc produce bags, and they make the veggies last twice as long. Those ‘as seen on TV’ green bags supposedly work… a know a couple people who have tried them and they like them. I only like to shop once a week for veggies.. so these definitely come in handy.

shopping tip that’s so very easy to do is never shop hungry. Studies have shown that people are more likely to put junk it their shopping cart if their hungry. Have a quick snack before or during shopping to avoid making bad decisions.

    @Eric
Not TMI – tell us more about your ‘CAN MET CON” Is it for time? How do you score?

So i was starving tonight after things were settled in the house – made a trip to safeway and picked up a freaking roasted chicken for a night time snack. On the way home i ALMOST reached over to grab a leg off of it before i got home – you now how you would bring burgers and fries home and eating most of the fries before home.
    Oh how i have evolved.
Red grapes have been really good from both stupid-store and safeway so i have been eating a few of those. Had a spoonful of almond butter with a squirt of honey after my WOD.
Apple earlier and a hand full of iceberg lettuce. Talk about PRIMAL EATING – grabbing a handful of lettuce and going down on it like it was a handful of chocolate covered almonds.
Well better go do some situps – picture day coming up soon! ;)

I am not sure if it is AMRAP or total rounds for time…….either way no snitting or there may be some serious consequences…..
