Real Food Challenge Day 54

March 12th, 2010

Here’s a quote from Charles Poliquin from the Biosignature certification I did recently:

80% of diseases known to man can be healed by treating the pancreas and adrenal glands.

Now that’s a juicy little nugget to think about.  Please post thoughts to comments…

    I’m not sure if that is a scary thought or an encouraging one. I just wish this kind of thinking would be a little more widespread. People think you are nuts when you talk about this. I know of people who suffer from chronic health issues that could be cured by just changing the way they eat but when I have approached them on it, I get shot down. Yet if a medical doctor gave them pills for it they would take those. I don’t get it.

    Not to be a knob….but….do you have the research to support this claim…..I would be interested in reading it…..

    @Suzanne
    lol! Suzanne, how did I know you’d say that??!

    Wow! what a statement, but pre-Paleo eating, I wouldn’t really understand what that meant. However, on the flip side of things now, I am not shocked by this statement and have seen different people that have benefitted in different ways from health conditions of concern that have almost cured their issues. This is more of a broad statement as it also includes high blood pressure, but nonetheless, clean eating can cure so much!

    @Eric
    Well, Charles Poliquin didn’t give any specific references to support his claim when he said it, and often his claims are based on his clinical experience, but if you google syndrome x or metabolic syndrome you’ll find a lot of information on this. Another way to approach the research is to pick a disease and google the name of that disease + insulin or name of disease + cortisol and you’ll be surprised at how often you’ll find a connection.

    @SuperBean I purposely didn’t post any explanation for the statement, I was curious how our members would interpret it. I know that what Charles meant was that sugar and stress are the major causes of disease today and if you can treat those issues you can do a lot of good.

    carrots, so far, but the night is young….oh no forgot I did have a homemade sesame cracker

    So yesterday we had “Diversity Day” at work and they were serving food. Well free food doesn’t happen at our work often so I decided to eat, tourtiere, bannock & pansit….oh me oh my, I’m still suffering!!! In just doing this, gorging on carbs, we don’t need research to know the effects of food. I was vibrating after I ate all these carbs and then I crashed hard!!!

    Thanks Turbo…..I would not be surprised I just like to find out the why…..Stress (or the ability to deal with it) causes a HUGE amount of problems health wise, personally speaking…..

    If I manage my stress properly then I feel wonderful, gut issues especially. I went through and entire litany of terrible tests and they came back “clean” yet still had all the symptoms… I re-arranged some priorities, cleaned up my diet and in the famous words of the SHAM WOW/SLAP CHOP freak….. BAM!!! Things started to clear up.

    Now, after following this challenge I have never felt better….So I certainly buy it….
