Victoria Day Team Workout

The gym will be closed on Monday, May 23rd, except for a team workout at 9:00AM.  Please join us, this is a great chance to meet members you might not work out with otherwise.

On Ramp Session #34 starts Tuesday, May 10th: Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00PM to 7:00PM for 4 weeks. Our On Ramp class is a precursor to our on-going CrossFit Classes. This one-month, 12-class program is an “on-ramp” to the “highway” that is CrossFit. We will train proper exercise mechanics and techniques at relatively light loads. You will become consistent with those mechanics under the watchful eye of our coaches. Finally, you will learn how to bring up the intensity to increase your work capacity. We will be showing you movements in the beginning that are relatively non-technical, then progressively become more technical. All new members must complete the On Ramp program or a series of personal training sessions before joining our ongoing CrossFit Classes.

On Ramp Session #35 starts Wednesday, May 4th: Wednesdays from 6:00 to 7:30pm and Saturdays from 1:00 to 2:30PM for 4 weeks.  There will be no class on Saturday, May 21st, the May long weekend, so classes will continue until all 8 classes in the curriculum are completed, until Wednesday June 1st.

CrossFit Games Sectional Opens Begin

We would like to remind you that we are starting to prepare for Open Sectionals 2011. Due to the fact that we will be registering as an official affiliate and hosting the workouts at CrossFit Winnipeg, we need to know how many of our members are intending on competing in the Open Sectionals.  It is very important for us to know the exact number of athletes intending to compete as we need to schedule enough time each week to accommodate all of our athletes without interfering with our regular classes.

Please note that sectionals will not have any divisions and there will be no possibility of scaling workouts. There will be six weeks of workouts starting March 15th 2011.  The “WODS” will be announced each Tuesday and we will have until Sunday at 5pm to submit everyone’s scores. Every athlete NEEDS TO COMPLETE every workout that will be posted to remain in the competition.  That being said we do not want to discourage anyone from competing as it is a great experience to put all of your hard training to the test.

If you would like to compete please email Pascal at pascal@crossfitwinnipeg.com by Monday February 21st 2011. There will be a registration fee to participate (about $50). The exact amount is not yet determined and will depend on the number of competitors. Part of the fee will go to the registration for the Open Sectionals and the remainder will be used to pay the coaches who will need to put in extra hours every week to help out with the judging and score keeping.

With the first workout being announced on March 15, the CrossFit Games Open is less than a month away. Since the first WOD was announced on CrossFit.com 10 years ago, every day people all over the world have posted their results online. The Open is simply taking this process and raising the stakes.

There’s a strong incentive for success. The top 60 men, 60 women, and 30 teams in each region will qualify for Regional competition.

Individual participation in the Open will only cost $10 in the U.S. and Canada, and $5 elsewhere. Team registration will begin with every member of a team first registering as an individual. Then, one team member will pay 20 dollars to register as the team captain. It will not cost any additional fees to add team members, regardless of the size of the team. A team must consist of at least 3 men and 3 women.

New Specialty Class: Gymnastics

Starting on Sunday March 6th 2011 CrossFit Winnipeg will be adding a Gymnastics specialty class to our programming. The class will be held bi-weekly on Sunday afternoons from 3-5pm. The classes will be instructed by Jackie Saunders. The gymnastics classes will focus on improving technique with all of the various gymnastics movements that are part of the CFW programming in addition to just having fun playing around with tumbling, such as cartwheels, handsprings and all other gymnastics movements.
