Regan at the Spartan Race 2011

CrossFit Winnipeg’s Member of the Month for July 2011 is Regan Windsor.  Regan seems to have come out of nowhere.  I’ve been scouring my photos folder to find an old photo of Regan when she started On Ramp, because you would barely recognize her.  She was a mere mortal when she started On Ramp about a year ago.  Now is has reached “beast” status.  I  knew Regan had reached this status when a new male member walked to the board, saw Regan’s score and said:  “Who’s this “Cobra” guy?” because  that’s who he was chasing, rx’d pullups and all.   Always ready to learn and work hard, Regan is now up on the board for some of the benchmark workouts and I know that there are many more to come.  Congrats on your amazing performance, and your amazing abs!

Age:  37

Height:  5’6

Weight: 128

Favourite Exercise/Workout:  It’s tough to pick!  I’m going to say a crazy (long) metcon that includes Oly lifts!

Least Favourite Exercise/Workout: My least favorite has been Turkish getups but they’re coming along!  The only wod I’ve ever bailed on was 100 Turkish getups…although that wod no longer scares me, I don’t hope for them either!

Tell us something interesting or surprising about yourself?  I recently did the Warrior Dash in Minneapolis with a group of girls (picture is taken after ditching a muddy tank top and getting completely hosed down).  It’s a 3 mile run at a ski hill with 11 obstacles…thanks to CrossFit I actually thought it fun!!  Scale a wall with a rope? No problem!

What is your favourite hobby, pastime or sport?  CrossFit of course!!  I also love reading, running, and trying new and exciting things (which is how I discovered CrossFit!)

What were you doing before CrossFit?  I played hockey for a while until I let my sister talk me into running.  I have always loved working out with weights, but have had an on again off again relationship with weight training (until now!).

How did you find out about CrossFit Winnipeg?  I read a lot of fitness magazines and it kept popping up everywhere – I started doing some research on it and knew I was going to love it.  I googled to see if we had one in Winnipeg and signed up for OnRamp without even trying a class!

What changes have you seen in yourself or your life since joining CrossFit Winnipeg?  A total transformation!  The physical changes are amazing for me to see – it’s been a long time goal to get crazy fit and I was starting to think it just wasn’t going to happen.  I have also struggled with allergies/ food issues which the Paleo diet has completely eliminated.  Of course all those things together have resulted in a much happier, healthier me.  I can’t even describe how grateful I am to have discovered CFW!

Do you have any special memorable CrossFit Winnipeg moments?  I have lots!  My first Rx’d pull-up WOD had me smiling for weeks – rip and all!  Also, every one of the encouraging words that kept me fighting hard to finish a wod; everytime I lay flat out on the floor knowing I gave it everything I have; and every time I see someone do something I never imagined could be done… and thinking maybe, just maybe, some day I could do that too.

What advice would you give to a newbie or someone just joining CrossFit Winnipeg?  Take the time to learn proper technique, work hard, and the weight will follow.  I know how badly I wanted to Rx the WODs.   I still find it hard some days when I’m so close to the Rx’d weight not to just go for it, but I’ve suffered through going too heavy too fast before and it’s not worth it!!

What is your biggest accomplishment at CrossFit Winnipeg? To to finally reach my fitness goal! Which I will now revise to “become uberFit”!  It has come through many baby steps taken over the last year at CFW…leaping into OnRamp, working through technique when I wanted to hammer out weight, giving everything I have in each and every workout, feeling frustrated with a plateau, feeling victorious with a PR, trusting Paleo through the cravings for grains, and happily getting up at 4:30 each morning to make it all happen!  Of course now I couldn’t imagine it any other way!!

I think this crazy Regan transformation started around May’ish & it’s been just incredible watching you. I throw around the word “inspiration” a lot, because so many of our CFW CrossFitters inspire me… but with you it’s different.
