CrossFfit Winnipeg is proud to host an afternoon Personal Defense Readiness Seminar, instructed by CFW member Jason Paul on April 1st, 2012 from 1pm to 4pm.
Developed by Tony Blauer – PDR incorporates Psychological, Emotional and Physical tools to deal with potentially violent confrontations. The core of P.D.R.™ is based on the S.P.E.A.R. SYSTEM™ which is the first genetically & behaviorally inspired self-defense course of it’s kind. It is the only self-defense method that fully integrates the body’s reflexive responses and instinctive survival mechanisms making the S.P.E.A.R. SYSTEM (Spontaneous Protection Enabled Accelerated Response) the easiest, most natural way to protect yourself.
The S.P.E.A.R. SYSTEM™ is based on the instinctive startle flinch reflex that all people share. It teaches the student to convert these reactions into rotective/tactical responses. The use of Non Violent Postures, Verbal de-escalation and Fear Management tools, allows the user to survive the critical first few seconds of a physical confrontation. The PDR/SPEAR system takes what the person would naturally do to protect themselves – without any prior self defense training and converts these reactions to efficient tactical choices.
$45 for CFW Members. $59 for Non-Members. REGISTER HERE.

"When I started Crossfit I was a size 10 and I weighed 147 lbs. I have only lost 17 pounds but I am a size 4. The numbers on the scale don’t rule me anymore and that is so freeing. For that I can truly say Thank you CrossfitWinnipeg and thanks to all the incredible coaches who make this all possible.

This system has been featured many times on the Crossfit journal.
I knew Jason was teaching self defense classes but I didn’t realize it was the SPEAR system.
Ok I’m interested now.

Hey guys. It would be great to have you out to this.
For more info on the system visit the Crossfit main-site as well as pdrteam.com. Lots of videos and articles to browse. Links are there for this seminar and my blog site as well.
The High Gear suit will be at the seminar and if everything goes according to plan, the “Gladiator” will be showing up too.

Here is a short video where Coach Blauer explains one of the main elements of PDR/SPEAR. The Startle Flinch moment.

And one more on what can be done in High Gear at the highest level of scenario training

For this seminar we will use it to isolate close quarter tools (and since there is only one and I don’t want to get too badly beaten
we won’t be going too hard. You will however be able to test out your tactics at a bit higher/more realistic speed.
Sign up and check it out!

I’ll likely have an additional suit for people to try on at the event. I realize that some of the videos of the High Gear force on force scenario drills shown on the website can be a bit intimidating, but rest assured you won’t have to go with that intensity. Remember that we’ll only use them to isolate Close Quarter tools and will not be putting you through intense scenario training. The cool thing about this training is that everyone can do it because it is based on physiology. I’m working on having an another PDR coach attend as well so perhaps he and I will put together a live scenario for all to watch. it’s going to be a fun afternoon!
