Here’s how it works:
Fight Gone Bad is a fundraising event.
Any Crossfit Affiliate may register and create an Affiliate Team with any name you choose.
Any member from a registered affiliate may then register as a part of the Affiliate Team.
To find out if your Affiliate is registered, click the “Register” button and search for them there.
Team members and the Affiliate are encouraged to set fundraising goals.
Fundraising requires nothing more than sending a few emails right from your registration page.
The highest Fundraising Affiliate with 25 or more Team Members wins $5ooo worth of equipment from our sponsor, Rogue Fitness.
The highest Fundraising Affiliate with less than 25 Team Members wins $5ooo worth of equipment from our sponsor, Rogue Fitness.
Here are the rules:
The CrossFit workout is ‘Fight Gone Bad.’ In this workout you spend one minute at each of five stations, resulting in a a five-minute round after which a one-minute break is allowed before repeating. This event calls for three rounds. The clock does not reset or stop between exercises. On call of ‘rotate,’ the athletes must move to the next station immediately. One point is given for each rep, except on the rower, where each calorie is one point. The stations are:
To compete in the workout, all participants must complete each of the following:
The four divisions are:
There will be crews working on paving the parking lot at the gym this week. You may not be able to park close to the entrance at the back of the building. You have several alternative options:
Canada Day Team Workout
CrossFit Winnipeg is CLOSED on Canada Day (July 1). However, we will be hosting a “Team Workout” at Westview Park (aka “Garbage Hill”) at 9:30AM for anyone interested. Team workouts are designed to be fun and challenging. You will be teamed with at least one other individual to go through whatever challenges the coaches think might be fun to watch you do. It’s interesting how having teammates teaches you a thing or two about intensity. Important: if location is changed, we will update the web site by 8:30 PM on June 30.
Primal Blueprint Book
Irene ‘SuperBean’ Sas has ordered several Primal Blueprint books by marksdailyapple.com‘s Mark Sisson. She has 2 additional copies available for purchase for those who are interested. It’s so new it was published in April 2009, and it’s a great beginner’s guide to the primal/paleo way of eating. She is expecting the price to be about $30 after they arrive, but could be a little less. She is hoping to have them in 2 weeks. If you are interested let Super Bean or Tania know.
Kick Butt 5K for Charity
Here’s another 5K event, organized in honour MLC’s neighbour, who passed away from colorectal cancer earlier this year.
KICK BUTT #2 FOR COLORECTAL CANCER
SATURDAY, SEPT 12/09
10:00AM KILDONAN PARK
It turned into the surprise fundraiser last year. 230 (we were
thinking 100) participated. $25,000.00 (an optimistic $15,000.00
was the goal) raised for the work of the Colorectal Cancer
Association of Canada (CCAC) in Manitoba.
The 3K/5K walk/run returns this year along with the SILENT
AUCTION, JOE BOXER BUTT cover contest, and more!
Check out our new web site www.kickbuttrun.com. And be sure
to follow the links to the CCAC site and fund raising events to
register or donate.

LAST CHANCE!
We’re getting the T-shirts made this week, so this is a last chance to post your ideas and votes.
Some of the slogans we suggested were more popular than others, and a lot of you posted some great new ideas.
Please review the June 14th comments and let us know your top 3 choices. You can also post your vote or ideas on the corkboard at the gym.
Alright, it’s about time we get some CrossFit Winnipeg T-shirts made. The question is: what do we put on them? Since I’m not the creative type, I’m going to let you guys do the work. Here are a few to get you started. Please let us know if you like any of these and post any new ideas you might have. If you come up with the winning slogan, you get a free t-shirt.
Some ideas from other affiliates and the CrossFit message boards:
Be alive. Be very alive. - Mark Rippetoe
Strong people are harder to kill than weak people, and more useful in general. - Mark Rippetoe
My Workout Can Beat Up Your Workout
If you ask me what I am doing one more time . . . I am going to make you do it with me.
No, you can’t work in. I’m doing this for time.
I’d rather be stronger than I look

Work like you don’t need money,
Love like you’ve never been hurt,
dance like no one’s watching,
and workout until you puke.
Or, if you want to go with something a little classier, here are some quotes and proverbs. Some are a little long, but we can edit as needed.
Whatever you do, do with all your might. – Cicero
No rest is worth anything except the rest that is earned. -Jean Paul
Willing is not enough; we must do. – Goethe
Specialization is for insects. - Although a CrossFit saying, it is from sci-fi author Robert A. Heinlein. Heinlein also coined the term TANSTAAFL (there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch)
There is no better way to fight weakness than with strength. Once the mind and body have been awakened to their true potential, its impossible to turn back. - Henry Rollins
Nothing will work unless you do.- John Wooden
It’s the same each time with progress. First they ignore you, then they say you’re mad, then dangerous, then there’s a pause and then you can’t find anyone who disagrees with you.—Tony Benn
Obsessed is just a word the lazy use to describe the dedicated. – Unknown
Today I will do the things that other people won’t, so tomorrow I can do the things that other people can’t. – Unknown
From the pain comes the dream. – Peter Gabriel
I will act now. I will act now. I will act now. Henceforth, I will repeat these words each hour, each day, everyday, until the words become as much a habit as my breathing, and the action which follows becomes as instinctive as the blinking of my eyelids. With these words I can condition my mind to perform every action necessary for my success. I will act now for now is all I have. Tomorrow is the day reserved for the labor of the lazy. I am not lazy. Tomorrow is the day when the failure will succeed. I am not a failure. I will act now. Success will not wait. If I delay, success will become wed to another and lost to me forever. This is the time. This is the place. I am the person. – Og Mandino
Only the weak attempts to accomplish what he knows he can already achieve. - Stella Juarez
Don’t ask for a light load, but rather ask for a strong back.- Unknown

Mark June 24th on your calendars! Ashleigh, our resident waterski expert, is volunteering her time and expertise to take us waterskiing. We’ll be going to Lake Shirley on Murdock Road the afternoon/evening of Wednesday, June 24th. We’ll keep you posted on exact cost and times. We will most likely have a sign up sheet where you can reserve your time slot. No worries if you’ve never done this before, Ash has plenty of experience teaching everyone from beginners to experts.
The best way to push yourself to hit a personal best in a 5k effort is to compete. This is for all CrossFit Winnipeg athletes who are able to run. We’d love to see a lot of people get together to try this out.
Post your thoughts on these possibilities for getting together for a run + brunch.
