FAQ
1. What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is elite fitness of everyone; a strength and conditioning program designed to make you really, really fit and it is the most fun you will ever have working out.
2. Do I need experience or some minimum level of fitness?
No. Our workouts and exercises scale to any level. We’ve had everyone from grandmothers to obese people, and they’ve all been fine. You will too.
3. I have/had an injury. Can I still do CrossFit?
Many of our members have successfully used CrossFit to rehabilitate from minor injuries. Because people continue to move, work, and play in the real world regardless of injury history, we believe the best route to long-term health is to learn perfect form on functional movements, then to slowly build strength in those movements, rather than to avoid them altogether. Our coaches are always happy to work with you to scale and substitute exercises, to tailor workouts to your abilities. That said, we cannot offer you specific medical advice, and advise that you consult your physician before starting this (or any other) exercise program.
4. How do I start?
All the details are listed on our Get Started page. Our On Ramp program is a great way to ease into CrossFit, designed to teach you the basic movement patterns in CrossFit, with emphasis on technique, and ramping up the intensity to prepare you for our ongoing CrossFit program.
5. When can I get started?
First you must complete our On Ramp program or a series of Fundamentals sessions. Please check our Schedule page for information on the next On Ramp session.
6. I’m really fit and would like to skip the On Ramp program and come to the Workout of the Day (WOD), can I do that?
No, you must complete our CrossFit On Ramp program or a series of personal training sessions before being allowed to take WOD classes.
7. How much does the On Ramp program cost?
The cost of the On Ramp program is approximately the same as a monthly 3/week membership. $150 + GST.
8. What does the On Ramp program cover?
We’ll be coaching you in several aspects. Including CrossFit philosophies, nutrition, bodyweight exercises, resistance training and weightlifting. We’ll also be ramping you up to the intensity of our ongoing WOD classes.
9. What if I can’t fit one of the On Ramp classes into my schedule?
If you can’t make fit the On Ramp program into your schedule, you can book some Fundamentals sessions with a coach to learn the material we cover in the On Ramp classes. This can take 4 to 8 sessions. The cost is $60 per hour for one on one coaching.
10. What if I don’t want to join CrossFit Winnipeg after completing the On Ramp program?
No problem. There is no commitment required beyond the sessions you schedule. If you don’t join, then you have walked away with a few hours of great coaching and a good, working knowledge of CrossFit.
11. How much is a membership?
Once you have successfully completed our On Ramp program or the required personal training sessions, you can become a regular member. Training fees range from $8 to $21 per class, depending on frequency of training and length of contract. Check our Fees page for more details.
12. What does the membership include?
Your training fees include programming, personalized, professional coaching for all workouts, nutritional counseling, the support of a great community, team workouts, special events and seminars.
13. What form of payment do you accept?
Cash, Cheque, EFT, Credit Card.
14. Can I have a receipt?
Yes, we will email you a receipt.
15. Do you sell t-shirts or any other stuff?
Of course. Come on down to the gym and check out our selection of T-shirts, hats and hoodies. We also carry supplements, foam rollers, and skipping ropes.
16. Can I just come to CrossFit Winnipeg and work out on my own?
No. We are more than a typical commercial gym. We offer coached workouts, workshops and small group sessions, where people work out under trainer supervision, as it yields better, safer, and faster results than having people simply use the facility by themselves. However, if you would like to work on your goals in addition to or instead of the workout of the day, talk to your coach about getting an individualized program or online coaching to suit your needs.
17. What are your hours?
Check out our Schedule here.
18. How long to the workouts take?
An hour will include, warm-up, skill or strength work, workout of the day, and cool down.
19. Can I come anytime I want or do I have to register for specific class times?
Our On Ramp sessions are at set times and are not transferable. However, once you join as a full fledged member, you may come anytime during regular hours. We ask that you book your class online beforehand to ensure your spot in the class.
20. Do you have showers?
Yes, we do.
21. I’m just visiting Winnipeg, but I am an experienced CrossFitter visiting from another affiliate. Can I come workout?
We welcome experienced CrossFitters from all over. Please give us a heads up of your visit by emailing us so that we can advise you of our schedule. First drop-in visit from other affiliates is free. Subsequent visits $20 each.
22. Will CrossFit make me bulky?
Read this helpful article written by a woman who is not bulky.
23. What if I want to train for a specific event or competition?
CrossFit is a great general physical strength and conditioning program, but if you would like a specific program for your sport or competition, you can book 1 on 1 personal training sessions with one of our certified personal trainers or request online coaching or program design services.

"When I started Crossfit I was a size 10 and I weighed 147 lbs. I have only lost 17 pounds but I am a size 4. The numbers on the scale don’t rule me anymore and that is so freeing. For that I can truly say Thank you CrossfitWinnipeg and thanks to all the incredible coaches who make this all possible.
